GALERIAKALO was established in 2014 and was publicly inaugurated through a grand opening attended by many art admirers, diplomats, politicians, entrepreneurs, artists and collectors. The then Minister of Culture, Mrs. Mirela Kumbaro, “blessed” the gallery through an eloquent and elegant speech.

GALERIAKALO came to life as a result of an institutional step taken by Përparim Kalo, an Albanian lawyer, who started to modestly collect art in 1992, to become a collector with a rather large collection of paintings and sculptures. During his frequent business trips, he visited many art galleries across the world and was inspired by the contribution of many collectors like Duncan Philips, David and Carmen Kreeger, Basil and Marina Theocharakis in the cultural life of Western Balkans, then countries like Austria, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, but also Australia, Canada, South Africa, and US. He saw that many collectors focused on the artworks created by their compatriots and then later continued their art collection journey by setting up institutional art spots like galleries or museums which serve to the public at large.
