Naxhi Bakalli

Was born in Tirana in 1937. In 1957 he graduated from Artistic Lyceum “Jordan Misja” and in 1958 he won the first prize in painting with the portrait “Kajo Karafilit” in the National Competition for the Albanian Army.

In 1961 he was granted the right to study in the then Institute of Art (now Art Academy), where as a brilliant student of Ksenofon Dilo he graduated in painting and start working as a teacher in the Artistic Lyceum “Jordan Misja” in Tirana.

His first solo exhibition was in 1991 in the National Art Gallery of Tirana with 170 works from paintings to graphics and sculpture. From 1971 he was the illustrator of many bestsellers books: “Gjenerali i ushtrisë së vdekur” from Ismail Kadare, “Përse mendohen këto male” from Dritëro Agolli.

In 1980 Bakalli won the Republic First Prize with the mural “Endurance”, which can be found in the National Museum “Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu” in Kruja.

Often he abandons the boundaries of certain forms, which made him one of the best contemporary Albanian painters.
